Bangladesh pace unit can deliver Test success abroad - Talha Jubair

Talha Jubair, the pace bowling coach for Bangladesh, said on Friday (August 28) that because their pace unit has convinced them that they can take 20 wickets, they are now confident of success abroad.

After their historic tour of Australia, during which they managed to draw the two-match Test series 1-1, Bangladesh returned home.

In the first Test, which Australia lost by nine wickets to lose an early series lead, the pace unit put together a notable performance in Australia. However, the tourists' failure to score more than 100 runs in either of the two innings of the second Test resulted in a tie in the series.

“You can realistically hope to win Test matches away from home when your pace bowlers perform well. You must take twenty wickets. We can definitely take this as a positive sign. When Talha arrived at the airport from Australia, she told reporters, "I hope they can maintain their form."

Look, this is a team competition. There is unquestionably a concern that if the batters had done a little bit better, we might have played even better or had a better result in the second Test. Because the wicket had a lot of tennis-ball bounce, the toss in the second Test was very important. We couldn't handle that, and that was where we had some trouble.

“Going to Australia and dominating them like that, where they couldn't stand up against us in a single session, because you know how Australia counter-attacks. In the first Test, they simply couldn't match us. We anticipated Australia's strong comeback in the second Test. The toss ended up being a very decisive factor. The outcome could have been different if we had won the toss.

"For us, beating Australia is a huge deal. It sends a message to world cricket that we can beat anyone. In our subsequent tours, this experience will be extremely beneficial," he continued.

Talha said that he did not feel any difficulty guiding the fast bowlers of the national team as he has been quite close with them since their childhood days. He had replaced Shaun Tait in the national set-up after the latter decided to quit the post citing family reasons.

“I've been coaching fast bowlers for a long time. Working with bowlers wasn't something entirely new for me. Planning and strategizing against the batsmen I was up against, Australia's batsmen, was something new. Our analyst Shaon helped a great deal in identifying the weaknesses of Australia's batsmen. Being able to target those weaknesses and execute against them was a huge thing. We bowled a lot at each of their batsmen's weak spots.

“We certainly had the hope and belief that we could beat Australia, and every one of us carried that belief going in. The preparation we did before the first Test was excellent. Everyone adjusted very well. We didn't do particularly well in the practice match, and perhaps you were a little concerned about what would happen against Australia. However, we thought it was just a bad day. Overall, we felt that if we focus on our own game rather than worrying about the opponent, we can produce something good. Alhamdulillah, you saw how we dominated and won the first Test, which was very pleasing,” he said.
