Australia ODI Squad: Peake Called Up, Pace Trio Rested, Maxwell Dropped
Australia named 24 players across 3 squads for subcontinent tours of Pakistan + Bangladesh, May 30–June 21, 2026. Mitchell Marsh captains all teams. Big selection talking points: maiden call-ups, rest for pace trio, Maxwell axed from T20s.
Australia Under-19 captain Ollie Peake has been called up to the international squad for the first time, having been included in Australia's under-strength ODI squad to tour Pakistan later this month. But he will not feature in the Bangladesh ODIs or T20Is that follow, with Australia set to welcome back a number of IPL players who will miss the Pakistan leg of the tour.
Oliver Peake: 19yo Victorian, U19 World Cup captain 2026, Australia A graduate. Picked for Pakistan ODIs only. Liam Scott: 2025/26 Sheffield Shield Player of Year. In both ODI squads Pakistan + Bangladesh. Joel Davies: 2025/26 BBL MVP. Picked for Bangladesh T20Is only.
Notably, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been left out of the T20I portion of the Bangladesh tour despite being available. Both men have retired from ODI cricket. Steven Smith also remains on the T20 outer despite earning a late call-up to the T20 World Cup as an injury replacement, although he did not play. He too has retired from ODIs.
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood rested from all squads. Reason: Building red-ball workloads for August 2-Test home series vs Bangladesh. All 3 recently returned from IPL injuries.
Glenn Maxwell not picked for Bangladesh T20Is despite being “one of most decorated T20I batsmen”Why: Heading to USA for full Major League Cricket season with Washington Freedom alongside Steve Smith. Note: Maxwell retired from ODIs already.
In-form South Australia allrounder Liam Scott and Sydney Sixers left-arm spinner Joel Davies have also earned their maiden international call-ups, with Scott included in both ODI squads while Davies has been included in the ODI squad for Pakistan and the T20I squad for Bangladesh. Both Davies and Tasmania fast bowler Riley Meredith will remain with the tour group throughout despite not formally being part of the Bangladesh ODI squad due to the return of the IPL players. Wicketkeeper batter Josh Philippe is another player who will only play in the Bangladesh T20Is.
Australia rest Cummins-Starc-Hazlewood to prep for Tests, drop Maxwell from T20s for MLC, and blood teens Peake + Scott + Davies on subcontinent tours. All with an eye on next year’s ODI World Cup.
