Australia dominate West Indies to seal ODI series

In the second one-day international, Australia Women defeated West Indies Women by a commanding 90 runs to win the series with one game remaining. In pursuit of 270, the home side crumbled to 179 as the visitors claimed their fifth win on the trot in this tour. Australia will aim to repeat their 3-0 victory in the T20 Internationals. Beth Mooney, who injuredly missed the first ODI, hit a steady 65 runs to hold together an Australia innings that was sluggish in the middle order. Placed at 140/5 at one point, they crossed 250 thanks to contributions from Georgia Wareham (39) and Nicola Carey (30*), and a late flourish from Alana King (26*). With captain Sophie Molineux sitting out, Tahlia McGrath was in charge, picking up two wickets, but it was Australia's trio of spinners - King, Wareham and Ash Gardner - that clamped down on West Indies in the middle overs, chipping away with regular wickets to unsettle their chase. In contrast to previous matches, West Indies got off to a strong start, winning the first one-day international by 50 runs against Australia for the first time since 2014. Gardner caught and bowled Qiana Joseph (29), who was the first to leave. Captain Hayley Matthews, who had taken three wickets earlier, appeared to be on track for a fifty until she lofted one off McGrath to deep extra cover. Wareham recovered Stafanie Taylor's fall, and Deandra Dottin edged one to slip later in the over. Australia established a firm grip on the game within six balls. Chinelle Henry clubbed King for one of only two sixes in the game in the 31st over as she attempted to control the rising run rate. But she was dismissed soon after, top-edging a sweep off Gardner. Shemaine Campbell was kicked out of an attempt for a quick single, and the confusion typified their collapse. Jahzara Claxton missed a full-toss to be lbw, adding to their string of poor dismissals. From 94/2, they stumbled to 130/9. Despite Afy Fletcher putting up a fight and remaining undefeated on 32, it was too little, too late. Australia has now won four bilateral ODI series against the West Indies in a row. In total, Australia has only lost one of their 20 games.
