Auction Strategy: CSK considering parting ways with high-profile buy Prashant Veer

The Backdrop: Ahead of the IPL mini-auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly evaluating strategic squad changes to free up significant funds in their auction purse.

The Record Investment: Prashant Veer was bought by CSK for a whopping INR 14.20 crore at the auction, making him one of the most expensive uncapped players in IPL history.

"We believed in Marnus for this tour. We'll have to reassess that as we move forward. Others will sit there and say what that means for him. There'll be a lot of speculation. There's still a very good cricketer there. Every time he drops back to state level, he outperforms the others.

"He's had some opportunities that he's missed on this tour in particular so that'll be something in the next week or so that we'll get our heads around. We're not in a rush to make decisions. There's too much emotion. But, as I said, he hasn't taken his opportunity on this tour."

Modest Debut Output: Following a relatively modest debut season where his on-field performances did not entirely match his massive price tag, the franchise is weighing the possibility of parting ways with the young all-rounder to regain heavy purse flexibility for future squad rebuilding.
