Anushka Sharma sidelined for few games with minor hand injury
Anushka Sharma, an all-rounder for the Gujarat Giants (GG), suffered a minor injury while fielding in the WPL 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on January 11. She will be out of action for a "short period." In a statement, GG said that they wanted her "back soon."
Anushka was seen wearing strapping on her right hand before Tuesday's match against Mumbai Indians (MI).
"Anushka is progressing well and is under the close supervision of the team's medical staff," a GG statement stated. "Her health and long-term well-being remain our priority, though she will be a big loss for the side."
Following their defeat to MI, GG head coach Michael Klinger stated that the team hoped Anushka would be fit enough to participate in the WPL's Vadodara leg on January 19.
Klinger stated at the press conference that followed the match, "Yeah, we're unsure, we're hoping only a game or two, and then she'll be back." "However, all she needs is some time off for her hand, and after that, we are confident that she will return for the [Vadodara] leg.
"It's being evaluated, yes, so Anushka's hand is in a cast to keep it still right now. We're just trying to give her the best chance possible for a week or so of healing, and then hopefully she'll be ready for Baroda."
During her match-winning 103-run partnership with captain Ash Gardner, Anushka made an impression in her WPL debut with a score of 44 off 30 balls from number three against UP Warriorz. She also displayed a range of shots. She also stood out in the field with a superb leaping effort at the boundary to prevent Jemimah Rodrigues from hitting a six in the subsequent match against DC. In her ten-ball stay, she hit a six and a four. She also bowls offspin, but she hasn't played in a tournament yet.
