All-round Kathryn Bryce powers Scotland to tri-series win

In a shortened match on Wednesday, Scotland defeated Netherlands by 24 runs via DLS, putting Bangladesh's 34-run defeat behind them and returning to winning ways. Skipper Kathryn Bryce was the star with a stellar all-round performance, top-scoring with 63 before picking up a wicket to spearhead Scotland's charge at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh.

Netherlands opted to field first after rain delayed the start of play, reducing the contest to a 12-over-per-side fixture. Darcey Carter was bowled out by Heather Siegers in the very next over after a strong start by Katherine Fraser, who hit a six in the first over. Before Fraser applied the same tactic to Isabel van der Woning, Kathryn Bryce snatched a few boundaries from Silver Siegers to get her in. That was followed by two more boundaries, this time by Bryce, as Scotland got past 50 at the start of the sixth over.

Bryce peppered the fence at will to raise a fifty off of 28 deliveries, but Caroline de Lange cleaned up Fraser for 29. Kathryn's sister Sarah, who scored 23 runs off 12 balls, was Kathryn's company as they scored 17 runs off Heather in the 10th over to propel Scotland to 110 runs by the end. Kathryn's dismissal to Iris Zwelling ended the Bryce sisters' partnership at 58. It was followed by a dry 10-ball phase where Scotland failed to muster a boundary, even as they finished with an imposing 124 on the board.

The skipper also bowled Phebe Molkenboer for just three runs in the second over, so he wasn't left behind with the ball. Kathryn once more contributed to the dismissal by catching Heather Siggers, who hit three fours but was run out for 15. Netherlands' captain Babette de Leede struck two sixes off Olivia Bell, while Sterre Kalis found the boundary on a couple of occasions in the sixth over after a relatively sedate start.

The skies opened up once more at 59/2 after six overs, raising the Netherlands target to 105 in ten overs. Scotland regained control thanks to Chloe Abel's four-run over after the game resumed, which resulted in her dismissal of de Leede for 14. The Dutch were eliminated when Kalis was run out in the eighth over, and they needed 30 runs to win the final over. They could muster only five runs with Robine Rijke run out off the penultimate ball as Scotland completed a facile win.
