Ben Stokes to Make England Return After Successful Hamstring Surgery

​England Test captain Ben Stokes has declared himself "very, very confident" in resuming his full role as an all-rounder ahead of the upcoming Test matches against Zimbabwe and India this summer. After a five-month recovery from a hamstring tear sustained during the final Test in New Zealand in December 2024, Stokes believes he has handled his rehabilitation "a lot better" this time around .​ Stokes is set to return in a one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge, starting May 22, marking his first match since the injury. He expressed his eagerness to resume his role as the fourth seamer and middle-order batter, aiming to "dominate every situation" on the field. In preparation for his comeback, Stokes has undertaken an extensive rehabilitation program, describing it as "one of the longest rehab periods of his career." He emphasized that this approach has been less taxing both physically and mentally compared to previous recoveries. Looking ahead, Stokes is also expected to lead England in the five-Test series against India, beginning June 20. He has worked closely with head coach Brendon McCullum to manage his workload effectively, ensuring he can contribute fully without risking further injury.
