The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) for one week, effective May 9, 2025. This decision comes in response to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent cross-border hostilities. The BCCI emphasized that the safety of players and national interest are paramount considerations in this suspension . The suspension follows the abrupt abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala on May 8, which was halted due to a stadium blackout amid reports of drone and missile threats. Subsequently, all players and spectators were safely evacuated. As of now, 58 out of the scheduled 74 matches have been completed, leaving 16 matches, including the playoffs, pending. The BCCI is evaluating the situation and has shortlisted Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad as potential venues to host the remaining fixtures, pending government approval and a comprehensive assessment of the security situation .
